Listening
In this work I am often reminded how important it is to listen to the horses, to forget about my session plan and be as aware as they are. I was working with a client who had lived through traumatic illness. We had planned to take her through The Journey, and she was keen to try reflective work in the roundpen. Yet, as soon as she went out to meet the horses, Alf marched up to her, stood by her, lowered his head until his nostrils were on her heart - and stayed there for some time. My client experienced the quiet strength of the horse, affirmation of her journey, and belief in her future.
